Out-of-Town Swing Dancers Visiting Seattle – Food & Cocktail Joints

06 Jul Out-of-Town Swing Dancers Visiting Seattle – Food & Cocktail Joints

If you’re planning a trip to Seattle for a swing dance event, here are a bunch of killer places to check out on your trip!

“Fast Food”

No McDonald’s in this list:

Dick’s Drive-In

Ranchos Bravos (Mexican – Capitol Hill)
Everything is delicious, cheap, and fast. A swing dancer favorite, located directly next to the Century Ballroom.
* OPEN until 3am Friday & Saturday night!
Freddy Junior’s (Burgers & Hotdogs – Capitol Hill)
Mini slider and mini hot dogs for $1.50-$2.00 each, so you can try a few different flavor combos.
Dick’s Drive-In (American / Burgers + Fries)
You can’t say you’ve visited Seattle until you’ve gone to Dick’s after a dance. Greasy and tasty burgers and fries for CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP.
* OPEN until 2am.
Kedai Makan (Malaysian – Capitol Hill)
I actually have yet to eat here, but everyone I’ve spoken to raves about it, and there’s usually a small line outside this take-out joint.
* OPEN until 2am Friday & Saturday
Hot Mama’s Pizza (Pizza Only – Capitol Hill)
I have three words for you: Pesto Pizza Slice.
* OPEN until 2:30am Friday & Saturday

“Sit Down Restaurants”

Here’s some spots you may want to sit down in to soak up the atmosphere:

The Nacho Borracho “Totchos” (Tater Tot Nachos)

— Nacho Borracho (Mexican – Capitol Hill)
They have frozen moscow mules served from a slushy machine, and “totchos”… those are nachos with tater tots instead of tortilla chips. Yep.
* OPEN until 2am.
Umi Sushi (Japanese – Belltown)
They have happy hour from 4-8pm if you sit at the bar. Order the $5 hot sake during happy hour and split it with a friend. Or you know… you don’t have to share.
— Witness (Southern – Capitol Hill)
Smoked shrimp and grits… chicken & waffles… and the cocktails are fantastic, too! Happy Hour is 4-6pm everyday.
* OPEN until 2am Friday & Saturday.
Bimbo’s Cantina (Mexican – Capitol Hill)
Funky hipster place with a Mexican wrestling decor going on. Strong margaritas! Happy Hour is 4-8pm Tuesday through Saturday, and all day Sunday & Monday. * Food served until midnight everyday.

“Coffee + Breakfast / Brunch”

Here’s some spots you may want to sit down in to soak up the atmosphere:

Portage Bay Cafe – you can load up your own toppings when you order certain items from the breakfast bar.

— Caffe Vita (Coffee Shop – Capitol Hill)
Some of the best Coffee in Seattle
Victrola Coffee (Coffee Shop – Capitol Hill)
Top Pot Doughnuts (Coffee + Tasty Pastries – Capitol Hill & Belltown)
A Seattle favorite among locals, with loads of doughnut options!
Oddfellows Cafe + Bar (American – Capitol Hill)
Great coffee, good cocktails, and yummy eats. Conveniently located next to the Century Ballroom.
* Weekend Brunch until 3pm.
Portage Bay Cafe (Local + Organic – Westlake area)
Fantastic LARGE breakfast portions. The South Lake Union location is the one I’ve been to. Totally recommended.
* Weekday Brunch until 11am, Sat & Sunday brunch until 2:30pm.
Louisa’s Cafe (Southern – Eastlake)
Amazing breakfast! Definitely worth getting a car to go to. Do yourself a favor and get the biscuits & gravy.
Lost Lake Cafe (American Diner – Capitol Hill)
Greasy spoon food available 24 HOURS everyday

“The Best Cocktails”

Zig Zag and their talented bartenders

For those that appreciate a damn fine vintage cocktail:
— Canon (Whiskey + Craft Cocktails – Capitol Hill), 5pm to 2am
Some of the titles they’ve won: Best Craft Cocktail (Seattle Weekly), Best Bars in America (Esquire), Best Cocktail Bars in the US (Food & Wine Magazine), 21 Best Whiskey Bars in America (Thrillist), etc. Bar opens at 5, and I recommend getting there right at 5 to get a seat.
Zig Zag (Craft Cocktails – Waterfront / Pike Place Market), 5pm to 2am
This is a favorite among Seattle swing dancers. If you go, chances are you’ll see one of us there. Happy Hour is from 5-7. You won’t get a bad drink at this joint. Try and sit at the bar if you can. And if you aren’t sure what you want, just tell the bartender what you do & don’t like, and they’ll make you a drink you’ll never forget. Also, order the Spanish Coffee for a fun experience.
— Knee High Stocking Co. (Craft Cocktails – Capitol Hill), 6pm to 2am
One of our many “speakeasies” in Seattle, you MUST TEXT to get in: 206-979-7049
Order the “Cup of Awesome”. They’re not kidding.
Bathtub Gin & Co. (Craft Cocktails – Belltown), 5pm to 2am
Yeah… if you like Gin, this IS the place to go. Happy Hour from 5-7pm. Just a heads up, the door to it is located in an alley. It’s speakeasy style…
Tavern Law (Craft Cocktails – Capitol Hill)
Another one of our many “speakeasies” in Seattle. Close to the Century Ballroom.
